Buying a ticket
How do I know I won’t get scammed?
Three things. Everyone here signed in with an @bristol.ac.uk address, so nobody is anonymous. Your money is held by Bristol Tix and the seller can’t touch it until you’ve got your ticket. And every listing shows the first four characters of the seller’s university email, so you can check the ticket arrives from the same person.
What are those four characters next to a seller?
The start of their university email address. If a listing says ab12 and the ticket turns up from ab12345@bristol.ac.uk, it’s the person you paid. If it comes from somewhere else, don’t use it. Report it and you’ll be refunded.
When am I charged?
When you press pay. The money sits with Bristol Tix, not the seller. If the ticket never arrives, you get all of it back, fee included, automatically.
What if the seller never sends it?
They have 24 hours, or until the event starts if that’s sooner. Miss it and you’re refunded in full without having to ask. Their account takes a strike, and two strikes stops them selling.
What if the ticket doesn’t work?
Press “Something’s wrong with this order” on the order page. Your money freezes on the spot, the seller has 24 hours to explain, then a person here decides. If it was a bad ticket, you get everything back.
Why is there a fee?
It’s 8% plus 30p per order, and it pays for card processing and for holding your money until the ticket reaches you. Sellers get exactly what they asked for; nothing comes out of their side.
How many tickets can I buy?
Up to 4 per event, and two checkouts open at a time so tickets aren’t held hostage while you decide.
Selling a ticket
What does it cost me?
Nothing. You receive exactly the price you set. The buyer pays the fee on top.
When do I get paid?
For a ticket transferred inside the ticketing app, shortly after the buyer confirms. For a PDF or screenshot, 12 hours after the event has happened, because a file can be forwarded to more than one person, and waiting is what makes buyers trust a PDF at all.
How do I send the ticket?
From the order page, not from your DMs. Upload the PDF or screenshot there, or paste the transfer link. The buyer downloads it from us, so nothing gets lost and there’s a record if anything goes wrong.
What happens if I sell the same ticket twice?
We read the barcode out of every file and compare it with everything already sold here. A repeat is rejected before it reaches the buyer, and the account is closed. It’s the one thing that ends an account immediately.
Can I sell above face value?
Yes, unless the organiser requires face value, in which case the event page says so. Every listing shows buyers how far above or below face value your price is.
Can I sell a Bristol SU ticket?
Yes. SU tickets can’t move between accounts, so you upload the file and we deliver it inside the order. The buyer still needs their UCard at the door.
How many can I list?
Up to 4 per event, and 10 live listings in total.
I can’t send a ticket I’ve sold
Cancel it on the order page as soon as you know. The buyer is refunded immediately and you take one strike. Leaving them to find out at the door is much worse.
Getting paid
How do I set up payment?
Go to Getting paid in your account and add your name and UK bank details once. The form is hosted by Stripe, our payments provider, and Bristol Tix never sees your bank details. You don’t need a Stripe account.
When does the money arrive?
Payments go out once a day and usually land the same day by Faster Payments. Everything due to you is paid in one go, not per ticket.
My name has to match?
Yes. The bank checks the account name against what you give, so use the name on your bank account.
I’ve sold something but added no bank details
Nothing is lost. The money waits for you and goes out in the next payment after your details are in.
The money hasn’t arrived
Check Getting paid: it shows every payment and its status, including anything that bounced. If it says paid and your bank disagrees, message us with the date and we’ll chase it.
Your account
I didn’t get my sign-in code
Codes can take a minute to reach university inboxes. Check Junk, then ask for a new one. Only the newest code works, and each lasts 10 minutes.
Why do I need a Bristol email?
It’s what keeps the scammers out. Everyone buying and selling is a verified member of the university, and anyone who breaks the rules can’t just make a new account.
Can I use my alumni address?
No. Bristol Tix is for current students and staff with an address ending @bristol.ac.uk. Alumni and old my.bristol.ac.uk addresses are refused.
Do other people see my name?
No. Everyone sees a made-up name like “Swift Heron 482” and the first four characters of your university email. Your real name is shown only to the other person on an order you’ve paid for, because they need it to send or receive the ticket.
The event I want isn’t listed
Add it from the Sell tickets page. It goes live straight away and we check the details shortly after. Club nights at the big Bristol venues are added automatically.
How do I close my account?
Message us from your university address and we’ll close it. Order records are kept for as long as the law requires.
If something feels off
Someone asked me to pay outside Bristol Tix
Don’t. The moment money leaves this site none of the protection applies: no held payment, no refund, no comeback. Report them and we’ll deal with it.
I think a listing is fake
Report it below with the event and the seller’s four characters. We can see every listing and every ticket file, and we act the same day.
A ticket I bought was already used
Report the problem on the order page. Your money is still frozen at that point, and a used ticket means a full refund.
